This chapter describes the career and teaching philosophy of Gwen Barker. Barker was a soloist with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, Director of her own ballet school and performing company, and Head of the Preparatory Dance Division of Cornish College of the Arts. She defines technique as the result of the physical movements executed by dancers of classical ballet, which could also be applied to the other forms of dance.
