This chapter introduces the personal accounts of Haitian immigrants who have moved to Guiana. It gives the viewpoints of the downtrodden migrants. This study presents an analysis of time and place in Guiana establishing a background for experiences of Haitian migrants reporting here. Through the case of Dieula, a Haitian migrant residing in Guiana, this chapter brings into light different problems faced by these immigrants who worked day and night to meet their requirements. This chapter also gives a detailed account of an interview with Mister Jacques, a Guianese civil servant, touching upon the sensitive issue of Haitian immigration and racism.
