A Spanish fleet set sail for Brazil, intending to oust the Dutch and recapture Brazil for themselves. Count Maurits' leadership enabled the Dutch to disperse the Spanish fleet and force a victory by depriving the Spanish of drinking water. This chapter tells the story first from the perspective of the Dutch before switching to the viewpoint of the Spanish.
