A discussion of the current state of the Vaganova methodology and technique is presented in this chapter, which includes interviews with numerous pedagogues who studied directly under Vaganova and still teach today. The role of the ballet pedagogue within the system of Russian ballet training and theatre coaching, and how it differs from American ballet training, is explained. Interviews with Ninella Kurgapkina, Gabriela Komleva, Alla Osipenko, Uliana Lopatkina, Irina Chistiakova, Tatiana Terekhova, Galina Kekisheva, Gennadi Silutsky, Sergei Vikulov, and others, are included, which cover topics such as the shifts in 21st century ballet technique and body types, dramatic expression in dancers today, and the performance load of the dancers in the theatre. The current artistic director of the Vaganova Academy, Altynai Asylmuratova, explains the ongoing efforts at the Vaganova Academy to preserve Vaganova's system as it was intended.
