Lawrence's Rhetorical Play with Gender Roles
This chapter discusses D. H. Lawrence's essays that advocate a “male position of power” within the context of natural gender roles. It also addresses the possibility of the formulation of an argument about Lawrence and Bonnie Kime Scott and implicitly prepares an argument for the relevance of contemporary masculinity studies. The chapter takes into consideration the fact that the dangers to Lawrence's rhetorical stance are obvious, and that it also promotes a gestic understanding of gender perfectly at home with some current expressions of feminist theory.
Keywords: D. H. Lawrence, male position, power, natural gender roles, Bonnie Kime Scott, contemporary masculinity studies, rhetorical stance, gender, feminist theory
