This chapter examines the career of Samuel Hood as commissioner at Portsmouth. It discusses Hood's appointment to be in command of several ships including Royal William, Marlborough and Courageux. It also explores Hood's participation in the Seven Years' War against the French forces and also highlights Hood's efforts to get back to active as flag officer in March 1780 and his appointment in October of the same as the flag officer of Barfleur with eight ships under his command.
