Faced with such formidable opposition, the World Church of the Creator (WCOTC) was dealt a serious blow with the arrest and imprisonment of its leader, Matthew Hale. This chapter recounts his many legal troubles. For much of 2002, the WCOTC was embroiled in a civil suit with the TETA-MA Truth Foundation over the foundation's trademarked “Church of the Creator” name. In December 2002, Hale filed suit against Judge Lefkow, claiming that she was wrong in ordering the WCOTC to desist from using the “Church of the Creator” label. According to the indictment against Hale, he had solicited Tony Evola to murder Judge Lefkow in the period from November 29 to December 17, 2002. In light of Hale's conviction, the future of the World Church of the Creator is uncertain.
