In religious writing, a particular genre that focuses on Muslim ethics that has existed for three hundred years at the least consists of guidebooks for leading a moral life. These books are intended for a specific audience in order to provide advice on clothing, religious participation, and other such important subjects. In some parts of the Islamic world, a recent resurgence has resulted in the widespread publication of similar books. Although these are also meant to serve as guidebooks, they are often concerned with the proper moral behavior and conduct of women in both private and public settings. In contrast to what one may usually expect, those who are more educated refer to the teachings of these books while those who are less educated tend to reject the teachings. Since these manuals are claimed to have been based on religious teachings, most women are often held captive by these writings in a society that values patriarchal cultural traditions.
