Eiko Otake has been performing with a group called Eiko & Koma since the 1970s. Eiko & Koma have performed several pieces since 1995 in which the body and landscape are integrated. Because their site works involve museums, cemeteries, and rivers in various places around the world, they have brought inspiration to audiences of different nationalities. Eiko Otake perceives both theater work and site work as site- and time-specific, since all performances require an awareness of the place's specifics. Although the framework incorporated for their choreography results in how performances with the same title entail no comparable content, their choreography cannot be set in detail since the choreography is dictated by the concept and subject of the piece, as in their work River.

Keywords:   Eiko Otake, Eiko & Koma, awareness of specifics, choreography
