Migration and the Transformation of the Southern Workplace since 1945

Robert Cassanello

Colin J. Davis

University Press of Florida

This introductory chapter begins with a review of studies on the role of migration in the transformation of the South. It then sets out the purpose of the book, which is to examine the South as a place of transformation because of migration, and what that spells for the Southern workplace. Each chapter addresses the ways in which locations and communities within the region respond to the multifaceted transformation of the Southern environment because of migration and the workplace responses to that migration. An overview of the subsequent chapters is also presented.
