On Technique

Dean Speer

University Press of Florida

This chapter describes the career and teaching philosophy of Karen Gibbons-Brown, Artistic Director of the Fort Wayne Ballet in Indiana. Gibbons-Brown defines technique as the knowledge base that allows one to create quality movement both kinetically and aesthetically. It is not elusive but, rather, more scientific than someone watching a class or performance might ever imagine. When all is said and done, technique is the means to the end.
