This chapter begins with a short review of dominant schools of thought in political anthropology, and proceeds by establishing how current concerns in political anthropology impact archaeologists’ perspectives on ancient politics. More specifically, the chapter shows how politics needs to be understood as a dynamic process rather than a static set of institutions.
