The Archaeology of French and Indian War Frontier Forts

R. Scott Stephenson

University Press of Florida

Chapter 1 presents an overview of the French and Indian War and discusses supplies and the importance of waterways in the wilderness. In the northern theater and in Pennsylvania, the war was a war of posts utilized as stepping stones to threaten the nearest enemy fort. Lawrence Babits considers the adaptability of both sides to the wilderness and sets the stage for the chapters that follow.
