This chapter considers Thayer thoughts on sex. There is a disconnect between women's views of him as gentle and loving and his own private thoughts, which are full of the need to physically overcome his lovers. He had relationships during this period with Alyse Gregory and Louise Bryant (“Queen of Bohemia”). In 1920 he also began psychoanalysis with L. Piece Clark, an early American practitioner, and told his friend Watson that he was eager to see and become a patient of Freud.
