Thayer encountered further political chaos in Vienna during his stay there. He began work on a new project, Living Art, which was to be a folio of works by the best artists of the period that he would offer for sale. Thayer's anti-Semitism is discussed within the broad context of that sentiment. Around this time, too, Thayer begins manifesting symptoms of paranoia regarding the staff of the magazine.

Keywords:   Vienna, Living Art, Arthur Schnitzler, anti-Semitism, paranoia
