Thayer's death results in a legal tug-of-war between the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Eventually the Met wins and receives most of Thayer's art collection. Found in a storage facility are more Thayer papers and art, including Picasso's notorious Erotic Scene, also known as La Douleur.
