This chapter identifies and analyzes the attributes of a new and different category of archaeological objects: water ceramics. These objects were used for the storage of water reserves in Guadeloupean homes. It also explains how large coarse earthenware jars and stone water filters, in particular, were used to improve the quality of the water supply and how the fact that water management was a chore left to slave women in Guadeloupe impacted the local ceramic culture. Finally, it suggests that managing water at the domestic level was a priority of early modern households beyond Guadeloupe.
