This chapter analyzes recent trends in heroin consumption in Colombia and the spread of HIV. The study was performed by leading physicians and epidemiologists who highlight the major public health threats of heroin and the spread of HIV. The chapter focuses on the increasing prevalence of heroin use, significant drug use and sexual risks among drug users, the increasing rates of HIV infection rates among drug users, as well as other factors.
