Toward the Creation of an Afro-Argentine Digital Archive in the Cape Verdean Association of Buenos Aires
María Cecilia Martino's essay describes how the Cape Verdean community in Buenos Aires is creating a digital archive to transmit Afrodescendant collective memory and make visible groups who have been erased from national histories in Argentina despite having lived there for generations. The digitized documents being made available in the archive are also helping reassess histories in Argentina and the Cape Verde islands, nurturing a transatlantic conception of Blackness, consolidating new histories of Argentina, and enriching intergenerational discussions about individual and collective identity.
